At Pomphlett, we teach a cross-curricular, skills-based curriculum, believing children progress most effectively when the skills, knowledge and understanding they are expected to learn are taught within a themed, topic-based framework that makes their learning interesting, relevant and enjoyable. Teachers plan learning each term ensuring that lessons are focused around aspects the children are interested in, resulting in topics where different subjects are linked as far as possible with a common theme. The core curriculum subjects of English and Mathematics are taught every day whilst other National Curriculum subjects are taught in timetabled slots at varying times during the week or may be blocked together over the course of a few days/weeks, should the subject matter being taught suit this. Over the course of the year, we also hold themed curriculum enrichment weeks and focus days where the whole school will concentrate on a particular area (such as Arts Week or Health Week) to raise the children's awareness and develop their interest more deeply. Please visit the pages below for more information about the topics we teach and the subjects in particular.
If you would like further information about the curriculum, please contact your child's teacher or the Deputy Headteacher, Mrs Makelis. More information about the curriculum can be accessed from the links at the bottom of this page.
