Day to Day Info For Year 4

Welcome to your Year 4 information page! If there is anything else you need to know please feel free to ask Mrs Jarvis on the playground, send in a note with your child or make an appointment through the school office.

Reading
Your child has been given a red home reading diary and a book that is appropriate to their reading level. The diaries are for the children to keep a record of the reading that they do at home and during free reading time in school. Please feel free to write comments about your child's reading efforts with you within the diary. We will be keeping separate records of your child reading to us within school time.

The children will be reading every day in school, but reading for just 5/10 minutes a day at home will make a huge difference to your child's progress, not just in Literacy but across the whole Curriculum.

Homework
Homework will normally be given out on a Thursday and needs to be given in by the following Tuesday. This gives the children 5 days to complete it around their busy home life schedules and the opportunity to attend Homework club on a Monday evening if they are having any problems. Instructions will always be stuck into the Homework book as well as being posted on our class web page.

Spellings
Spellings will be given out on a Wednesday for a test the following Wednesday. They will be stuck into the children's blue spelling books, which need to be brought into school every Wednesday.

Times Tables/Mental Maths
The children have done really well and most already have a sound knowledge of their times tables. The children will be continuing to learn the rest of their times tables in class but should keep practicing regularly at home too. The class will be tested on their mental maths skills every Thursday, which includes times tables questions.

PE
After the initial three weeks of intensive swimming lessons, Year 4 will be taking part in PE lessons on a Wednesday and Friday. PE kit (white t-shirt, white shorts, and trainers/plimsolls) needs to be in school all week as we will make the most of any nice breaks in the weather!

PPA
Mrs Jarvis will have her PPA time on a Tuesday afternoon. This session will be covered by Mrs Plant who will be teaching Art, RE and exploring touch typing in ICT.
