About Us

Built in 1960, Pomphlett Primary School is a one form entry school serving a community of mixed housing in Plymstock, a suburb of Plymouth. We have a pre-school unit on site, now called KinderKare, which opened in 1995. This excellent facility provides the great majority of children that enter the school each September (a one point entry for those children who will be five that academic year). It also provides pre and post school care, as well as a holiday club.

The children are organised into year groups, with the Foundation class and the Year 1 class occupying the ground floor, with Years 2 to 6 occupying the first floor. We take 30 children into each year group, having a capacity of 210.

The past few years have seen a substantial amount of change, and much investment has been made in rejuvenating the grounds and building as well as resourcing the curriculum. We were inspected by Ofsted in September 2007 and was judged to be a good school with outstanding features. The latest inspection report is available on the OfSTED website, or can be accessed from our Welcome page.

We value our parents highly, and the PTA provides active and strong support for the School. The formal curriculum is supported by numerous extra-curricular clubs and residential experiences for children in Years 4, 5 and 6. The school holds a number of awards including the Plymouth Inclusion Kitemark, Activemark Gold, Healthy Schools Award, Healthy Eating Award and, most recently, the Bristol Standard for Early Years.
