Autumn '15 Welcome to Parents and Children
Welcome to your one stop shop for important information regarding Year 3! If you have any questions or queries, please feel free to catch us in the playground before or after school, send a note in with your child, or make an appointment to see us via the school office.
Your child has been given a colour banded school reading book, which they should be reading at home on a daily basis. Even 5 or 10 minutes a day can make all the difference in your child's reading progress. Please make sure you record when you read with your child at home and what page number they have reached in their red reading diaries. Children have the opportunity to change their reading books daily during registration. We will check their reading levels regularly to ensure they progress through the colour bands.
Every Thursday new spellings will be given out for a test the following Thursday. The majority of the class will be learning to spell words from the statutory word lists for Years 3 and 4. Children who still receive daily phonics teaching will learn spellings based on their phonic phase. Each week the children will record their scores in their blue spellings books and highlight any words they got wrong so you can see which words they need to continue working on.
It is incredibly important that your child practices their times tables regularly at home. We will be looking at x4, x6, x8, x9 tables in class, but will recap the x2, x3, x5, 10 regularly. At home try quick bursts whilst travelling too and from school, interactive times tables games on the web and mini challenges to keep their brains ticking! We will be using the ever popular Percy Parker to help them with their rapid recall.
Double and Halves
Your child will bring home a Doubles and Halves booklet which has sets of number facts to learn at Bronze, Silver and Gold level. Please help your child to learn them by practising at home. Your child will be told which set to practise and they will be tested in school.
Homework is given out on a fortnightly basis and will cover a range of topics.
Our normal PE days are Tuesday and Friday. Please make sure that your child has PE kit: white t shirt, white shorts, plimsolls for indoors AND trainers for outside PE. Earrings and jewellery must be removed during PE lessons. Please ensure that their PE kits are in school during the week as we will also try and make the most of nice weather as and when it arises!
Mrs Tighe's and Mrs Luscombe's PPA time is on a Wednesday afternoon. This will be covered by Mrs Kohler who will be teaching ICT, RE and PHSE. We generally alternate Wednesdays but this is subject to change depending on other commitments such as professional training.
