Week 4 13.04.20

Welcome Back

Welcome back after the Easter Break. We hope that you and your families have been able to enjoy some Easter fun despite the lock down and the difficulties that this brings to all of us.

Well done if you have managed to try some of the learning activities that we have provided. If you haven't managed to log in to any of the websites that we have recommended, please do contact us and we will do our very best to help.

The grid for this week has a bit more detail on it, but please do not be daunted by this. A key point to remember is that if children are mentally engaged in a variety of tasks, keeping themselves active in some way and happy, then this in itself is a major achievement given the current circumstances. However, if you would like a suggested way of prioritising learning then please read on!

Our main focus is to ensure regular reading practice and secure the reading and spelling of the Year 3/4 list of words ensuring children know and understand what these words mean. By practising reading these words and writing them out will help to aid memory as well as providing handwriting practise.

As well as reading and spelling, please prioritise learning of times tables and basic calculation. If you have access to the online resources then please use these(Beat That and Times Table Rockstars).  By the end of year 4, it is expected that all children should be able to rapidly recall all times tables facts up to 12x12.

Please then choose activities according to what you can reasonably accommodate according to your family circumstances, resources available (IT and practical), work commitments, and children's interest etc. We do understand that this may vary considerably from family to family and we are trying to carefully judge which learning activities to suggest. As we are trying to cater to a broad range of needs and circumstances, we have also provided some additional resources below the grid in case these are of use to you, but there is absolutely no expectation that these should be completed, they are there to add variety to our overall offer.

Please do get in touch if you have any questions or would like further guidance- we are here to help in any way that we can.

Many thanks for your continued hard work in supporting your child's learning.

Warmest wishes,

The Year 4 team.
