Welcome to Year 5!
On this page you will be able to find out about our day to day routines and you will also be able to have a look at what we have been getting up to in class.
Your child needs to bring a reading book and reading diary home with them everyday. We ask that they read a small amount each night and two or three times a week with an adult to question them about what they have read. This really helps to develop comprehension skills. Please initial the reading diary when you have listened to your child read.
In Year 5 homework is set on a Thursday and is due in on a Tuesday. Your child will be given one peice of numeracy and literacy a week however sometimes it may be a peice related to our topic. If your child has any problems with their homework they need to come and speak to either myself or Mrs Cooke. If your child is struggling to get their homework completed at home there is a KS2 homework club which runs on a Monday after school from 3.30 - 4.20.
Spellings are tested on a Friday and a new set will be handed out on that same day for the next week. Your child will be practising them in school every morning when they come in however it is very important they learn them at home as well.
Please continue to encourage your child to learn their times tables, we will be covering them in school through mental maths tests and worded problems.
This term PE is on a Wednesday and a Friday afternoon. Please make sure that your child has a full PE kit in school at all times as there may be other opporuntites during the week that your child will have the chance to take part in.
If there is anything else you need to know please feel free to ask Miss Humphrey on the playground, send in a note with your child or make an appointment through the school office.
