Science week 2026

Year 3 had an exciting time this week with our Science Week challenge. We had to think about Beating the Flood.

We looked at where on our island would be a good place to build a flood proof house, bearing in mind rivers and roads.

We had a design brief to design and make a model of a flood proof house. We looked at the absorbency of materials and the strength tested them to choose which materials to use and how to construct it so it would withstand a flood. The 3 main elements were a pitched roof, a strong, stable structure and raised out of the flood waters.

The children worked hard in teams to include all member's ideas and work together whilst resolving conflict. This is an important skill. They were amazing and generated so much inclusive language as well as engineering problem solving and resilience.
