Stone Age Day

Today Year 3 culminated their 'Welcome to the Stone Age' unit with an ambitious Stone Age day. Firstly they used their cutting, gluing and layering skills in Design Technology to make some marvelous woolly mammoths. After learning about the hunter gatherers of the time, they peeled, chopped and weighed blueberries, blackberries, apples and pears, before boiling the ingredients for stewed fruit. Finally they worked in teams to build Stone Age shelters from sticks and stones. The children have been engrossed in the Skara Brae settlement work in History, and used this knowledge to include features such as a hearth, areas for sleeping and stone lower walls with stick and moss covers. What a fantastic day!
