  • Pomphlett Cross Country

    Mon 29 Feb 2016

On Friday our Cross Country Team took part in the third event in the Plymstock Road Runners Cross Country league, which took place here at Pomphlett.

The weather was (as ever!) incredibly unkind, being wet and windy, making the hilly course a muddy one! Our team soldiered on, all showing great determination in completing the course.

Special mention goes to Leah (2nd), Cleo (3rd), Aimee (3rd), Javier (5th), Finley (7th), Frank (9th) and the rest of the team for another fantastic run.

The final race of the season is at Goosewell on Friday 11th March. Keep an eye out for those results!

  • Basketball Finals

    Thu 25 Feb 2016
On Sunday 21st February our Year 6 Basketball team went to Plymouth Pavilions to compete in the Plymouth Schools basketball finals. It was a close tournament against teams from Drake, Oreston and Keyham Barton. Pomphlett won 1, drew 1 and lost 1, finishing in 3rd place, narrowly missing out on 2nd by points difference! The team were outstanding, giving their all in every game. They were then treated to a super Raiders game in the evening with Raiders coming out victorious. Well done everyone and to all the brilliant parents who came to cheer them on! Your support was brilliant!
  • Brilliant Basketball

Yesterday morning our Year 6 basketball team visited Coombe Dean School to take part in the annual basketball tournament. We played against 6 other schools and worked incredibly well as a team. We came in second place, securing our qualification into the city final which will take place at Plymouth Pavillions on Sunday 21st February prior to the Raiders home match!

A huge well done to all involved! Watch this space for the results of the final!

    Fri 12 Feb 2016
Yesterday afternoon a group of Year 6 pupils visited Plymstock School to take part in a Quick Sticks hockey festival. The team played 10 different teams and finished in a fantastic 3rd place! It was a fast paced 4 a side game with substitutes being made every 2 minutes! Well done to the whole team for super school representation!

  • More Muddy Cross Country

    Mon 08 Feb 2016

On Friday, our intrepid cross country team battled through the mud at Wembury School to take part in the latest of the PAAC league events. Over a very wet and windy course our team rose to the challenge yet again, with everyone completing the race and earning points for our school.

Special mentions go to Aimee (Y5) and Leah (Y6) who both earned bronze medals, Cleo (Y6) who ran a smashing race and only just missed out on a medal, achieving 4th place, and Finley (Y5) who squeezed into the top ten coming 9th in his race!

Well done to the whole team! Our next race is on Friday 26th February at Pomphlett! Please come along and show your support on our home ground!

  • POMPHLETT WINS AWARD!

    Fri 05 Feb 2016

We were delighted to open the post this morning to find a letter from Sam Gyimah MP, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Childcare and Education. Mr Gyimah wrote to me to congratulate the school on winning a local award for the Key Stage 2 category of the Pupil Premium Awards 2016! The Pupil Premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. Schools in England receive funding for each child registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last six years along with children who have been in the care of the Local Authority. Mr Gyimah informed me that the reason for us having been selected for this award is that we are one of the high achieving schools in the country in terms of attainment and progress for our disadvantaged pupils since 2011! He congratulated governors, parents, pupils and staff for our hard work and said that it was clear we provided disadvantaged pupils with a good start in life and prepared them well for secondary school. He also invited us to submit an application to win a regional or national award! The full letter is reproduced here for you to see. This is a coveted and prestigious award, which we came close to winning last year, so it is very pleasing to have our work recognised in this way this year. Well done to everyone who has contributed to this success!

  • Table Tennis

    Mon 01 Feb 2016
This term Year 3 and 6 are thoroughly enjoying their Table Tennis PE lessons which are being led by Paul Whiting from Table Tennis England. They have enjoyed learning individual skills and playing small games. This support has been paid for by our School Sports Funding and will lead to some of our Year 3 children taking part in the Devon Table Tennis Championships later this month.
  • CROSS COUNTRY

    Mon 01 Feb 2016

On Friday 29th January our Year 5 and 6 Cross Country team ventured to Oreston School to take part in the first of the PAAC Cross Country league races. On a very wet and muddy field, the children competed against the other 6 Plymstock Primary Schools. First up were the Year 5s, with two top 10 finishers: Finley - 7th and Aimee - 2nd, gaining a super silver medal! Next up were the Year 6s, with three top 10 places: Cleo - 7th, Jack - 5th and Leah 3rd with a wonderful Bronze medal!

Every single member of the team completed their very tough races and showed great commitment and determination throughout! We are very proud of you all!

Look out for more Cross Country news as the next race is on Friday (5 February) at Wembury!
