This evening our KS2 running team visited Coombe Dean School to take part in the final race of the PSSP league. The children ran well over the long and wooded course and brought in the lowest team scores of the year so far. • Youth Sports Trust Bronze Ambassadors

    Wed 12 Oct 2016
Five Year 6 pupils have been selected to be this years sports ambassadors. They attended a training afternoon at Plymouth Life Centre, run by sports leaders from across the city, in order to pick up the skills needed for the role. Also attending the day was Gisela Ansley, part of the gold medal winning hockey squad of Rio 2016. She spoke to the children about the importance of volunteering and leadership in national sport, and of course showed off her gold medal! The children will  be helping organise sports activities for pupils within the school and help lead activities for younger pupils.  Please let them know if you have any sports activities that you are interested in that they could help organise.

  • Democracy Day

    Fri 16 Sep 2016

The school became a political hot spot today when we held Democracy Day. The children learnt about the political system when they were spoken to by a parliamentary outreach worker. The Year 6 children wrote manifestos and campaigned for their spot as Team Captains. The whole school went to the polls to cast their vote, with the final results being read out in the final assembly by Mr Walsh.

Congratulations to Paris and Richard (Reds), Katie and Finley (Blues), Javier and Florence (Greens) and George and Justine (Yellows) who became team captains after successful campaigns.

We also held campaigns within each class for our School Council and Eco Council representatives.

    Well done to everyone involved!

  • PARTIAL SCHOOL CLOSURE ON TUESDAY 5th JULY DUE TO STRIKE ACTION

    Thu 30 Jun 2016

You may be aware due to reports in the media that the National Union of Teachers has called a one day national strike on Tuesday 5th July 2016 following a properly organised national ballot of its members. The NUT has followed all procedures relating to legitimate strike action, making this legal industrial action.

The Chair of Governors and I have considered the impact of this strike upon the school’s provision and have concluded school will remain open to all children except for children in Year 3 and Year 5.

Therefore, children in Years 3 and 5 should not be brought in or sent to school on Tuesday 5th July and their parents should make alternative arrangements for their care for the whole day.

The Chair of Governors and I have not made this decision lightly and have made and communicated this decision to you at the earliest possible opportunity to allow parents maximum time to make other plans.

We realise this is likely to cause significant inconvenience to Y3 and Y5 parents but hope they understood this partial closure of school is a result of widespread lawful national industrial action taken by the NUT, the largest primary school teaching union.

School will reopen to all children on Wednesday 6th July as normal.

  • Brickfields Athletics

    Fri 24 Jun 2016
On Wednesday 22nd June, our KS2 team ventured across the city to the annual athletics championships. Events took place throughout the day on both the track and in the field with amazing results from our pupils. Almost everyone made it through the heats and into the city finals - including every one of our relay teams! Everyone put in a huge effort and represented us incredibly well. Massive mentions must go to Frank (Y5) for coming 2nd in the Boys 80m sprint, Jessie (Y4) for coming 1st in the Girls 70m sprint, and Leah (Y6) who came 2nd in the Girls Long Jump and 1st in the Girls 200m. Well done to the whole team!
